Hi Simon,

A certain food crackers manufacturer would like to know if ISO 22000 can be applied to their organization. How long will it take them to apply this until they become certified? The business processes are simple but this organization would like to be the first food cracker manufacturer to be certified with ISO 22000.

What are the phases or steps to be taken to be able to undergo the process of ISO 22000? Please advise...

You may email me at amorjasm@yahoo.com

Thank you :)

Hi Amor Jasmine,

Yes I'm sure ISO 22000 can be applied to a ‘food cracker' manufacturing company. With regard to the steps to be taken to achieve ISO 22000 - well the first step would be to purchase a copy of the Standard; however, the final version of the Standard has not yet been published. Initially it was due to be published November 2004 but it may well be delayed into 2005.

Also it is very difficult to say how long it will take your organisation to meet the required level without knowing more detail about them. What is their starting point? For example do they have HACCP or ISO 9001:2000 systems? Or do they work to some other recognised Standard maybe?

Regards,
Simon

Hola Simon,

Thanks for your quick response! This organization that I mentioned was having some assistance from the government to be aligned with HACCP, but I am also convincing them that they be certified to ISO 9001:2000. But since ISO 22000 is coming soon, it is better to know further this new standard.

Actually, the ideal scenario would be integrated management system, wherein, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 plus HACCP come together as one. :D

Would you have the latest draft of ISO 22000, please do send me an email.

By the way, Simon, I like this forum very much... the way you handle your discussion is very informative and professional. Congratulations for having this site.

All the best,

There is a lot of interrelation between the standards. Although total integration may not be entirely achievable, wherever possible we should work towards one management system so that a degree of efficiency of effort is achieved.

Not an easy task but well worth the effort.

Simon
