Career comprises both computer hardware and food technology?

Hello,
I have done Engineering in Food Technology and working as Quality Assurance Technologist in a food industry. On other side I am doing computer repair as my part time business. Now I just want to correlate computer hardware and food technology. So I am wondering if anybody has any information what kind of career I can choose or what kind of further study I can do to get this kind of career.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Sid

Welcome vdhindsa,

First of all I think you're lucky to live in Canada because canadian factories are doing a lot of efforts in Haccp and trace-ability for the moment.
If you want to create your own firm, you can ask the MAPAQ (if you live in Québec) some information about some factories/ firms who would be interested in it.
But I think it'"s easier to join a company; you know, it's difficult for us to hire qualified people who can understand requirements of the food industry and computers. So I think it wouldn't be so difficult for you to find something in Canada, it's so easy to have a new job other there!

That's just my opinion,

Regards,

emmanuel.
Thanks a lot for your reply penard, ur right canadians are really serious about HACCP in food industry. I m working as QA technologist in a food industry from last 3 yrs. But i just want to do some kind of job where i can use my knowledge and skills from both food and computer technology. For example we have automation process started last month. this is like set up of intra network wireless connected computers for different application. but my guess is we could have a lot of other applications too where we can use computers in food industry. so i just like to know about few more ideas regarding this.

Thanks

Sid
Dear vdhindsa,

How about:-
(a) Traceability from incoming checking list, lab test result, processing parameters and the inspection results(and trend analysis) , reject figure, rework information, quantity produced, end product testing result, production/expiry date, outlet sold etc.
(b) To have program to summarise the type and total training attended by employees and their background information / skill / qualification.
© In house program to alert you on calibration, maintenance , cleaning etc.
(d) Accessibility of food safety manual, empty forms, procedure etc. and the revision of new documents

Regards,
Yong
Thanks for ur response Yong .these were some wonderful suggestions ..i will try my level best to take out something from these.
Thanks again ...
i'm a qa dogsbody for a large dairy company.....im the only one in the group who doesn't have a science degree (yet.....hopefully by july 08! who wants to help with my dissertation?)

However i have a number of IT qualifications, including CISCO networking (don't ask...long story) and i've been lucky in that i've put my computing skills to use in designing and implementing lab systems. the majority of these have been either based on access databases or look up tables in excel.

at the moment as a company we are looking to develop a LIMS system, which will incorporate all aspects of quality, from training to suppliers and complaints which will be common for all of our sites. currently we use sharepoint for document sharing and QPulse as a document control system.

in the future, i think a number of companies are going to start looking for QA people who are comfortable with IT. i know that when i employ, i look for people who are IT savvy.

Pity your in Canada, you could have helped us!

Not me, but I'm sure somebody with a modicum of intelligence will. What's it on Caz?
