Hello,

Can anyone please ofeer advice / guidance about their experience of combining ISO 22000 & ISO 9001:200 standards into an Integrated Management System.

I have looked at materials about PAS 99, but would like to acquire more practical understanding and examples, particularly from anyone who is going, or has gone through, the process of IMS development and installation.

Many thanks,

Barrie Evans

Mr Barry Evans from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia with an avatar of a silhouetted Winston Churchill making a very good attempt at a bunny rabbit shadow puppet. And yet an apparently serious question. I am totally and utterly perplexed.

Can anyone help Barry out?

P.S. whoever you are, wherever you’re from, you’re very welcome at our forums.

Thanks,
Simon

Simon, Simon, Simon...oh simple Simon. Despite my crass comments Barry took the time to email me yesterday to tell me about his fascinating life and the food safety challenges they face in Mongolia.

Please can somebody help Barry with his query on integrating ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.

Thanks,
Simon
Hello,

First, I need to apologise for my bad English... I´m Portuguese, but I have read some informations here that have been very useful for me, so I think that it's possible someone here help me...

I work in a food industry that have a quality system not certified, but aligned with Iso 9001. Apart of this, we are BRC certified and have a HACCP Plan.

We are now try to integrated the both systems (Iso 9001 & Iso 22000), and accomplish the requists of new BRC Standars.

We are now review the quality manual and start to do a "Quality and food Safety manual".

In the quality manual (iso 9001) we had the processes (Contarct review, internal audit, purchasing,..) and a scheme with the processes interaction.
I have read in a document that we can integrate the HACCP as a process.

My doubt is:
Every process have a flow that describe all the steps and with the inputs and outputs (requisite of 90001). I don´t know how can I describe the HACCP as a process... Because is not the process of the production.

Anyone have an idea??

Many thanks, Awaiting for your coments

Best regards,
Filipa
Hello Filipa

I my opinion, HACCP can not be addressed as a process. Other different thing is, you must apply the HACCP system principles on your " production process".

Any other comment??

Sincerely
ESther
Hello Esther,

many thanks for tour comment.

I'm working in combined "Quality and Safety food Manual", and I had some doubts about the structure of this manual. I prefer to not integrate the HACCP in the manual, and do a reference of the HACCP in the Manual.

Anyone have a structure or an example of an integrated Manual??

Many thanks,

Filipa
Dear filipa,

Here are some related files to yr query. They come from another thread "somewhere" on this forum . Note that these are 9000/haccp oriented, not 22000. Regarding the latter, perhaps you should consider the related comment/s from CharlesChew in another current ISO22000 thread.

Hello Charlie,

Many thanks for your reply.
The documents help me.

Anyone have an example of a Food Safety and Quality Manual, or the Index of one?

I need only a help of how it will be structured.

Many thanks,
Filipa
HI,

As per the requireemnt fo ISO 22000 standard food safety manual is not mandatory. I think when integrating ISO 9001 & ISO 22000 standards only Quality Manual is required. Amend the Quality Mnaul to meet the ISO 22000 requireemnts.

include the food safety policy requirements in the Quality Policy. Amend the management review meeting inputs to meet the ISO 22000 std. etc.

Hope this will help you

I think IMO, you should first firmly determine BEFORE any integration of systems were to take place, identify which standard shall be the leading reference standard.

If FSMS ISO 22000 does not require a manual then I see no reason why you should amend the QMS Manual to fit in. But if ISO 22K is the leading reference standard, do you still need to prepare a manual?
Hello,

many thanks for your help.

I have been in a ISO 22000 training, and I know that the quality manual for it standard is not mandotory, but I think that helps to systematize.

Perhaps I will use the same strucuture that I have in the quality manual, introducing food safety aspects. I have already change the "quality policy" to "quality and food safety policy".

Filipa
Hi Barrie

At present i am engaged in a project similar to that. i am now combining 9001:2000 manual and 22000: 2005 manual to gether. you can use the corss reference table printed on the back page of 22000 standard. that will make your job easy. if you need a cross reference table i can publish it on this forum.

If you need a cross reference table i can publish it on this forum.

I think you will be OK to publish the cross reference table. It's only a very small part of the standard.

Welcome to the forums Demming.

Simon
Hello Demming,

Many thanks for your opinion...
I'm doing the combinated Manual: "Quality and Food safety manual".

Do you have an example of one or a Index?

Only to help me to organise it...

Many thanks,

Filipa
Hi filpa,

attached here is a cross reference table which you can use in combining the ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 manuals. for example 7.3.3 of ISO 9001 talks about design and development output and in 7.6 of ISO 22000 it mentions about establishing HACCP plan. so you can include the reference to your HACCP plan under the 7.3.3. of ISO 9001 manual. you can apply this method to other clauses also using the clear reference tabel i am sending. it is an easy task. you dont need a sample manual. just include the outcome of what is mentioned in iso 22000 under the relevant clause in iso 9001 using the table.
Hope this will be helpful to you

Hello again Demming,

Many thanks for your reply and your help.

I think that I will use this method to accomplishement the both standards!

HI Filipa,

with this i am sending you another cross reference table which is more accurate and reliable. this was published by an internationally acredited institue. previous one is bit confusing. therefore i suggest that you use this cross reference table which is highly accurate.

if you need any further assistance you can publish on this forum.

Thank you for sharing the index table D.R. Tirtasujana.
Hi D.R. Tirtasujana....

do you have an example of the process mapping, to see all the process in general?...
and see how the ISO 9001 process works with ISO 22000 process...or how to intregrate both in one map.

Best Regards.
Roberto.
