Migration Testing of RPET Packaging

We hold "Declerations of Conformity" for migration testing on plastics from all of our primary packaging suppliers.

However we are moving over to use RPET packaging, and having spoken to WRAP they say that we should be testing our product at end of shelf life for the stimulants relevant to my products.

I've read the legislation (and the guidance) (Directive 82/117/EEC) and to be honest i'm none the wiser!

Is there anyone out there who can point me in the right direction

I presume you are attempting to cross-check / validate the appropriateness of migration data for RPET whose initial supply is the responsibility of the plastic manufacturer ?.

RPET = Recyclable PET (didn't know it existed), WRAP = wrap.org.uk = Waste and Resources Action Program ? "Stimulants" probably = simulants ?.

Being dairy your products are pretty benign. If your packaging supplier has undertaken migration testing I think all you need to do is make sure the testing is comprehensive and carried out on their behalf by a reputable company. Found this is the archives.

RPET is recycled PET - most plastics are recyclable - RPET actually contains PCW (post consumer waste) - usually about 80% sandwiched in between 2 layers of virgin PET (APET) -(amorphous PET).

The migration testing is identical to migration testing of virgin plastics - must meet the same criteria.
