ISO 14001 Implementation

Hi everyone,

My name is Rolf and i´m starting my last assigment for school in februari 2011. In my previous internship I´ve implemented an ISO 22000 (food safety) but the school period finished before we had an audit and wasn´t informed if the company pulled it off. For my graduationpaper I now need to implement an ISO 14001 (environmental) system. This company has the mandatory HACCP-plan/system. But If I understood it well during my employment interview, they do not have ISO 9001 ( I could be wrong). I would like to know if the ISO 14001 is an enlargement or add-on for the ISO 9001 or is ISO 14001 a thing by itself. All help is appriciated, the more info I have before I begin my internship is so much to the good.

Regards,

Rolf C.

It can be integrated with 9001 but 14001 will stand on its own if 9001 is not available. The basic struction of the standard is the same as with all ISO standards.

Hi Rolf,
ISO14000 is indeed very different from ISO9000. Even the way it is structured, is different. You could consider combining both these and indeed ISO18000 by considering and Integrated Management System as there are some cross overs with some clauses of both standards.

Dear Rolf,

You may choose to implement ISO 14001 by it self. There are some identical clause for 9k & 14k, as well diffrent hugely onto the operation/ technical analysis, e.g aspect & impact analysis, which do not have in 9k.

Yes these answers helped me big time. I know the company has to buy there own ISO 14001 standard but maybe there are some users with an example of a procedure or other usefull documents.

Dear reply'ers,

I have created some procedures and other documents for the implementation of ISO 14001.

I came across the chapter of ''capable, training and awerness'' (literally translated from dutch to english) and was wondering if there is anybody with an powerpoint presentation or document I could use as a guide (before I create it on my own). So I could instruct and create awerness among the employees.

Rolfo

Just to add to everyone else's answers, ISO 14001 is an Environmental Management System, whereas ISO9001 manages quality only, but does have an Environmental Policy incorporated into it. There are common elements to the two systems but they are not interchangeable and one cant be stretched to cover the other, or the other way around. Hope this helps :)
