Expected wastage when packing product in paper cans?
Help
we are planning to go into retail by packing our product in paper can (250g) . Could anyone render assistance on the like percentage wastage during packaging and the likely damage during product distribution.
This is an extremely broad question - can you provide any more details about what and how you're packing, and distributing?
Waste during the filling process is going to be very much dependent on your specific setup.
Hopefully e.g. outer cases have been designed to minimise damage during distribution?
General rule of thumb is less than 1%. World class manufacturing is less than 0.5%.
If this is a new style package you have not run before plan for waste up to 10% until you get things figured out.
All these waste percentages are during manufacturing. Warehousing, transportation, and handling at retail level is dependent on a large variety of factors and difficult to estimate until the item has been in the pipeline for some time.

Thanks for your response.
We are packing in 25kg bag for industrial use at the moment but planning to go into retail by packing in paper can of 250g.
on the outer case, we are looking into option of carton tray with shrink wrapping or packing in carton boxes and we are yet to conclude on the option to choose.

thanks so much Ryan.
Yes! it's a new process we have not done before but we are just planning it and we are opting for recyclable packaging materials
