Dears,

I'm currently doing update for the emergency preparedness to include all possible cases related to food safety but there is an obstacle which is testing the system, how could i made it?

cases like shortage of electricity, flood, storms, contamination of water supply and other things.

I want to make it to be more clear during testing, how testing could be and what form could be used?

if you have a test form, it would be appreciated to share it.

I can give you a few thoughts to get you started with action and recording.

On such a form live or test is the first question.

First thing would be a checkbox, denoting live or test.

Also record date and time of reporting, who reported, what the emergency is and a brief description.

You would need to call a meeting of your multidisciplinary team to determine the scale of emergency and confirm who is doing what.  Each person should already know their responsibilities documented in procedures.  These people would be noted as present a t the meeting on the documents and should report back to the team leader as actions completed.

Record the actions taken and by whom as an when complete.

Record who has been contacted external to the business if necessary.

After the dust settles (hopefully not radioactive) convene another meeting to review success of the event such as completeness, timeliness, safety, quality, hygiene, cost etc. (whatever relevant) and note down any opportunities for improvement.

Sign it off.

Make sure the improvement actions are implemented.

If you want to expand on the above and post it, we can review and elaborate further.

Hope this helps you to get started.

Regards,

Simon

Many thanks Simon for your help, really appreciated!!!

I have a question, shall i do a mock emergency on floor? or just i can do checks and meeting to review the plan (who is doing what and when?)

I am confused... Crisis Management plan or Emergency Preparedness? Our Emergency Preparedness drills are Fire and Weather Emergency drill with evacuation or interior shelter. Our Crisis management test creates an emergency scenario and all steps to continue operations (or seek contract manufacturer) to fulfill orders and maintain food safety. Maybe its just a difference in terminology?

Go into more detail for your written emergency response - define a scenario - such as ammonia leak - in the middle of a busy production day - of course evacuation is in order.

then what? What do you do with all the food left on the floor when the all clear has been given? Who is responsible for what? Test that .... we actually had this happen and if we didn't trial a mock incident - our team would not have been successful.

Don't forget a recall is actually an crisis - trial it.. see if you can contact all your sales people and let them know its a class 1 recall .

Hope this helps :)

You are absolutely right! both crisis and emergency are too close but both are seeking for the sustainability of the business.

Since ISO 22000:2018 doesn't contain a direct clause which talking about crisis (except in recall and withdrawal),so emergency preparedness is covering both food safety, quality and HSE needs.
