Metal in direct contact with the product according to EU
Hello, does anyone know of laws regarding Metal in direct contact with the product according to EU? Auditors do not accept I just check /test the law in the country. We use tin barrels to pack cashew nuts for export to China
I would think there needs to be a can liner of some sort, or cleaning records for the tin barrels.

Is this direct contact with a metal, or is there some sort of lacquer coating applied to the food-contact surface?
Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 is the general "framework" regulation on food contact materials, and whilst it includes provision for the EU to implement specific regulation on metals, it has not done so. Directive 94/62/EC (restrictions on heavy metals in packaging materials) would also apply, although it isn't specific to food-contact applications. If the metal is coated then you may also want to have a look at:
Regulation (EC) 1895/2005 (ref. epoxy derivatives)
Regulation (EC) 2023/2006 (GMP for food-contact materials)
Regulation 2018/213 (Bisphenol A in coatings for food-contact packaging)
