Standard ?

Product ?

Process ?

There needs to be backflow preventers on the plumbing system---and it should have documented inspections

All washrooms should be equipped with a floor drain in the event a toilet is blocked and overflows onto the floor

In food production, you need to have a set procedure for what you and your employees will do in case of a toilet overflow.

It is the responsibility of QA to direct the maintenance and production staff if backup issues occur. QA will monitor the effectiveness of the program.

Employees that have had direct contact with backup fluids and materials must change clothes and sanitize shoes before returning to work.

All non-production areas may be cordoned off to traffic, cleaned and production can continue. This area will not be used until it has been cleaned and sanitized during regular sanitation times.

Production Areas: All production must cease. An assessment of the situation will be conducted by QA and Maintenance. All affected products will be discarded, and the area will be cordoned off. Issues causing the backup will be corrected and if the affected area can be cleaned and sanitized without creating cross contamination issues in other areas of the room, production may resume after the areas is cleaned and sanitized. Any employee who had direct or indirect contact with the contamination  must change clothes and sanitize shoes prior to resuming work

If the area can not be cleaned and sanitized properly, production will cease until the entire production area goes through the sanitation process.
