The Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) is an alliance of companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and trade union organisations. They exist to promote and improve the implementation of corporate codes of practice which cover supply chain working conditions. Their ultimate goal is to ensure that the working conditions of workers producing for the UK market meet or exceed international labour standards.

Hi Simon,
My company has been looking at the ethical trading aspects mostly driven by the big retailers we have been dealing, in the food industry.
I am a little uneasy about this so called 'ethicaless' of the EU and others who seem to think that as most of the Raw Mats are EU sourced the trace stops at the primary or secondary upstream supplier. I think that the specifics of ethical trading are being paid lip service by most of the big boys/girls as I really dont think when push comes to shove 'anyone seems really bothered'...........or am I looking at this from the wrong end of the stick?
Well take the ETI, and others for eg, to sign up you pay a fee???????? then you make aspirations to clean up the supply chain. working condition, pay rates etc. The documentation from any potential audits now 'prove' that the company is 'ethical' by treating its own employees OK, but doesn't worry about where its key raw mats are being sourced from.
I think the quote is who do they think they are kidding???
