Hi There

What type of tape dispensers do you guys out there use. I am not happy with ours as they tend to break frequently - are there any good strong, screwless types out there? What is the norm in the industry? Thanks.

Hand held or bench mounted?

I like these beauties; they're a nice shade of food safe blue too.

Thanks Simon

We use ones that look like the trigger one - still looks to be too many screws and easily broken off parts - are they very sturdy? Maybe our operatives are too sore on them.

We are taping up boxes very regularly so I'm looking for something easy to use as well. I've heard of automatic dispensers - anyone any experience?

There are loads of hand held ones on the market. Look for heavy duty and robust and usually price is an indicator of quality. Get one sample of a few types and test or let the heavy handed warehouse people test them. Let them decide. One of the keys to longevity is good handling and storage practices as they tend to be thrown around and run over by fork lift trucks a lot and no matter how robust they are, they are not indestructible.

Hopefully a few useful tips that help.

Sorry I have no experience of auto tape dispensers.

Simon
I work in a plastics packaging company so we use the hand held tape guns with brown tape for sealing boxes & in warehouse. The best ones we have found came from Irongate stationery suppliers. They were a bargain at £1.99 each. We order 10 a year for 6 machines. OK the screws need a tighten now and again, but for the price they are brilliant.

Have you got a product link or some other contact details Rosemary?
Sorry it's taken so long guys!

The ones we bought from Lyreco were Lyreco Budget Pistol Tape Dispenser code 186.386, they were £1.99 each and had some hammering but still lasted up to a year!

Thanks for replying Rosemary. Probably a good thing its been a while as you have had the chance to road test them properly. 12 months for £1.99 sounds pretty good to me.

One thing to add I worked on a project once to get rid of tape on boxes with tapeless boxes. they cost a little more but save in dispensers, tape, time and remove a potential contaminant from the work environment. Just an idea.

Hi Simon

I'm intrigued - how does a tapeless box work?

Origami Rosie, but with cardboard. You can have boxes die cut to anything and tooling isn't that expensive. Crash lock bottoms, tuck in tops. If you have a cardboard box supplier ask them about options and if they don't have any ideas look for another supplier. This is just to give you an idea.

Of course it depends on the application.
