USDA Facility - Box Label
Hello,
We are currently using boxes with pre-printed labels on it. Which calls out Dextrose as one of the ingredients. However in a month or so we will have to change over to sucrose. However, we have lot of pre- printed boxes that will say Dextrose.
What do I have to do in this case?

Destroy the boxes with the incorrect ingredient.
Agreed with BeccaAnn above, or if your company can - relabel the boxes with current ingredients?
Word of caution: relabeling boxes may raise some eyebrows depending on your end user.
We had an unrelated problem with a pallet that had been previously relabeled.
It played a small role in convincing us to discard it.
It may be worth the brand integrity to discard (and hopefully recycle) the boxes.
Thats why you'll never find a box of Cheerios with a revision sticker on it. The unaware consumer may get spooked.

As a USDA FSIS facility, you can submit a temporary label approval request to use up the old boxes (typically a max of 6 months). You will have to explain why the approval is needed, the costs to be incurred by you if you do not get the approval, and how this does not pose food safety, quality, economic, or nutritional risks to the consumer. There is no guarantee that the request will be granted.
If the product is a WIP ingredient for further processing, you will need to discuss this in-depth with all users to ensure they have a clear understanding of the upcoming ingredient & labeling changes and associated timelines.
