You're right Charles I did. After this weekend I think we should be throwing vegetables at Manchester United. It's a big week for the reds of Manchester, the return leg against Roma tomorrow night (lost 2-1 in first leg) and then Semi-final of the FA Cup against Watford on Saturday and then back to the Premiership. Phew!

Regards,
Simon
Dear Simon,

IMHO they made a mistake over van Nistelroy, yet to be replaced. Bring back Bobby Charlton!

They could certainly do with him right now. Rooney and Ronaldo are fantastic but are not 'out and out' strikers like van Nistlerooy. We haven't missed him at all this season, but unfortunately of our other strikers Saha is injured and the fantastic Laarson has finished his loan spell at Man U, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is getting on a bit (bless him) and Alan Smith is still trying to recapture form after a bad injury. It is the wrong time of the season to be coming up short in front of goals. At least we have Giggs and Scholes who can pop up with a goal, well not Scholes tonight as he is banned after getting sent off in the first leg in Rome.
7-1, Ahem! Truly Amazing game. Perhaps ManU were inspired by this forum.
Whatever, congrats are definitely in order.

Astonishing match, I love to watch football when it is played in this way. Roma just could not cope with the fluidity and speed. I thought Roma's goalkeeper was quite poor also. Now Liverpool or Chelsea in the Final...after the small matter of AC Milan or Bayern Munich (they play tonight).

What did you think Franco or are you still switching off?

Dear Simon,

I'm still out of the game since I believe 2006/2007 UEFA CL is biased.

Italian teams roma, inter and chievo should not have been playing it.

I'm reading a very interesting book http://www.lulu.com/content/695516 about the so called "italian football scandal" which was actually the only way italian teams could beat Juventus.

I hope it will be translated into English and I will be happy to send you a gift copy.

Nevertheless I must admit I am extremely happy of roma's defeat.

If the score were 10-1 I would have been even happier
Unfortunately, after first round good game, romanian defender Chivu dissapointed. Big time.

Congratulations for Roma. Good luck United!
And now let's roll over Milan.

Where are all those german folks ?
Dear Franco,

In view of yr current disfavour to It. football, may I enquire if you have (hopefully only temporarily) replaced it with any other primary sport ? I noticed that Italy actually won a game of international rugby recently! I don't think the financial input is significant there (yet).

Rgds / Charles.C

added - I make no mention of another claimed national sport of Italy - ogling

Dear Charles,

the answer is no.

Actually I'm quite busy with lawyers and legal stuff about football scandal.

Newspapers and magazines gave a false view of the situation.

According to our informations, it was the just other way round: Juventus managers were the victims, not the Big Bosses.

The Big Bosses are still there at the top: they control informations just as George Orwell predicted.

It's a hard job, I'm still fighting for truth and there are many italian supporters fighting with me and we will never surrend, never.

Regards.

Franco

Maybe we can oblige in next round.
Forza Man Utd !! I still can't believe how easy that was and how poor Roma were. It never used to be like that against Italian Oposition but then again we didn't have our new midifield anchor Fletcher I've seen many amazing performances at Old Trafford but nothing to top last night

Good luck with your crusade Franco, Man Utd shared some epic UCL encounters with Juve and the Old Lady is many an Englishmans favourite Italian club.

Now bring on Bayern Munchen.

Seconded. Franco knows I love his old lady.

I went to the Man United V Blackburn match the other week. I thought the second half was the best half of football I'd ever seen; mind you I did have my beer goggles on. Last nights match sober or drunk was the best ever. Utd fans are being treated to some great football this season - almost worth the money.
Dear Franco,

I admire yr determination. They will soon be calling you the Italian Bulldog.

Dear Simon,

Since this is now an official football thread, I agree with you that some great football (not only from ManU, eg Drogba) has been on offer this year. Unfortunately, although I have not seen any statistics, I suspect it is also going to be a bad year for injuries on the field. I remember a short time back the promise to protect the ballplayers etc, etc. Now, I think the tackles permitted from behind are as fierce as I can remember plus it seems to me the goalkeepers are being regarded as "fair game" to an increasing degree.
Money talks I suppose.

I like the rugby idea where you can hear what the referee is saying to the players, very educational at times, not to mention the "sin bin".

Dear Franco , as a Panathinaikos Fan let me remind you that the biggest win in CL is Juventus 7-0 over Olympiakos!!( Our ancient Rival!!)
So please do not anyone take this record away !!
So it's AC Milan and Man United in the semi. What's your prediction Franco? Who should we fear? Let me know and I'll tell Alex.

The investigations were based upon the interpretation of telephone records made by Telecom Italy.

Let me say a couple of facts.

TELECOM Italy

President: former mr. Tronchetti, current mr. Guido Rossi (former Board of directors of Inter FC)
Vice Presidente: mr. Buora (vice president of Inter FC)
Board of directors: mr. Moratti (president of Inter FC)

INTER Football Club

Owners: mr. Tronchetti and mr. Moratti
President: mr. Moratti
Vice President: mr. Buora and mr. Ghelfi

Telecom is the main sponsor of italian football championship and italian football Cup.

Mr. Guido Rossi was the Commissioner of Italian Football Federation during the scandal.

Should I say anything else ?

There does appear to be a slight conflict of interests.

Milan is dangerous because they have very smart and expert players. Midfielders and forwarders are very good indeed.

Kakà is very fast, you should prevent him starting the slaloms from midfield because he is very able in dribbling and running towards the goal.

Inzaghi is very smart and able to play very close to offside position. Public enemy #1 in penalty area.

Their weakness is the defense. The point is that ManU players have to pass Milan midfield "Maginot line".

Gattuso, Seedorf and Pirlo protect their defense zone very well.

Goalkeeper Dida is performing randomly, Maldini is quite slow and Rooney and C. Ronaldo may easily win over him.

Fergy shoul know anyway

There does appear to be a slight conflict of interests.

Yeah, slight ...
On the subject of possible bias -

"Kaká is considered by many experts and journalists to be the best player in the world. A poll by the Brazilian magazine O`globo was made asking, "Who's the best player in the world?" The results showed that Kaká got 81.5% of the votes, while Ronaldinho only got 11%.[citation needed] A panel which comprised experts had a similar discussion in the Gazzeta dello sport, an Italian sports magazine. Kaká received a majority of the votes there too and was proclaimed as the best player in the world."

If you ask anyone in England right now they would surely say Ronaldo. Not easy for an Englishman to say after the 2006 World Cup. Ronaldo is mentally and physically strong, intelligent, lightning fast, skilful has an eye for goal and he is very, very handsome. We see a lot of him but see nothing of Kaka, so I suppose that is a big factor in our choice and same for Italians.
