Benefits Of Connecting Rfid And Lean And Six Sigma

Previously we've discussed the emergent Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology as a means of improving traceability and supply chain efficiency in the food industry. Like most food industry initiatives it's the large retailers who are driving RFID, and at this early stage I'm sure many see the technology as nothing more than impending additional cost with little tangible benefit.
That's why the article below caught my eye; in it the author highlights the benefits of using RFID as a data collection tool in a manufacturing process for driving lean and six sigma improvements.
As demonstrated by the article the range of applications for RFID is limited only by the imagination.

A complementary article to the one I posted earlier.
Six Sigma and RFID - Enabling process improvement
If (when) you are required to adopt RFID by customers don't do it passively, see how you can use the technology to derive operational improvements and internal cost savings.
Early in the above article two RFID background whitepapers are mentioned - here they are:
Demystifying RFID in the Supply Chain. An overview of the Promise and Pitfalls
A Framework for Developing RFID and an Auto ID strategy - Ensuring a holistic approach
