New Metal Detector requirements in the food safety management system
I am a QA manager at a water bottling plant. We are SFQ certified We recently had a metal detector installed on one of our lines to detect any possible filler tubes falling into our bottles. Do I need to include this in my process flow ? Is there anything I should be doing monthly to make sure I am in compliance to a certain standard.
Thank you
Put it in your process flow. You'll need daily paperwork on testing it - most use wands. If you don't have any, ask the company that you bought the machine from. They should have supplied you some. Then yearly validation.
It is a change to your HACCP plan, so yes it must be included
It is of no use to you if your not verifying that it is functioning as intended. You need either wands, or even better, rods that you can put in filled bottles to ensure it is working for your product
The vendor should have supplied you with all of that
FYI, you don't only have to worry about SQF, at some point (if not already) CFIA will be inspecting your facility, and if they see an MD, they will also want to see the verifications (frequency to be determined by your volume)
Thank you all for your help. It is much appreciated.
