What is the difference between Whitebait and Blanchbait?
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could briefly outline the differences between Whitebait & Blanchbait?
Much Obliged! - Thank You!
As I understand it blanchbait is coated and whitebait is not.
Cheers!
from a source blanchbait is whitebait that's been gutted and the head has been cut off

I find this highly amusing............blanche in French = white, no wonder there's next to no difference
I'm guessing depending on where you look there will be some difference, no difference or nothing found
Thank you both .. I did read the very literature you posted Scampi .. I was scratching my head somewhat :giggle:
Blanc is 'white' in French but Blanch does mean to whiten .. it also means to immerse in hot water though (just to confuse matters further) :giggle:
What you've managed to do very successfully is make me crave smelt!
Alas, Lake Erie no longer has enough of them to feed anyone :glare:
Probably due to Bessie. I am positive that the Lake Erie Monster has taken many of big fish I would have otherwise caught up there.
Cheers!
