Hi,

We have recently been told by a large customer that we need a GFSI certification.  Options are SQF, BRC & FSSC22000.  Can someone please advise which certification we should get?

We are a small company doing lots of different products in small volumes.  Our FSMS is based on HACCP/CODEX guidelines and we have never had any certification in the past.

Your insight would be appreciated,

Thanks

Hi Qld,

Yr product/process is unknown. i hope is food

I would avoid 3rd one. Requires codex ++

IMO (other posters may disagree of course) choice between first 2 may then depend on factors such as -

1. location customer (= unknown)(UK favours BRC, rest Europe maybe neither, USA maybe SQF)

2. prefer simple English ( favours SQF, BRC text can occasionally be mystifying / highly convoluted)

3. prefer "simple" format (favours SQF, eg BRC requires a multitude of risk assessments)

4. prefer scoring to major/minor etc defect system ( favours SQF)

5. prefer 1 standard for all foods versus various industry modules (favours BRC)

6. dislike staged audit system. (favours BRC)

7. dislike arbitrary auditor interpretations of Standard ( favours BRC)

8. do not accept "Practitioner" (favours BRC)

There are a lot of related comparison threads here if you search.

Kind Regards,
