Quick Question

 

 

How many of you use Fairy Liquid in your establishments and how many of you have the MSDS for it on file?

Being from the States, I did not recognize and had to Google "Fairy Liquid".  I did find the MSDS, but I have a feeling you only wanted to know if places that HAD Fairy Liquid on site had the MSDS.

 

I can say, having been burned on this one with Dawn dishwashing liquid, yes I have the MSDS for all the routine cleaners I can.

You've caught me out!

 

You'll be surprised how many places don't! Just about everywhere i've audited have it somewhere (QA or engineering) and few places actually have the MSDS.

 

It's the simple things that we forget.

It is amazing how Fairy liquid finds it way in to almost all food plants I have ever audited. I think the fairy's fly in at night and plant it in various cupboards for auditors to find. Never came across a MSDS. Even if it exists I believe it is a scented detergent and is not ideal for a food plant environment. But understand it lasts a 10 times longer than the next branded detergent and keeps hands feeling soft.... I doubt this information will be on the MSDS.

Thanks to this post I now have the MSDS for fairly liquid. I agree that this should not be used in the production environment but it  is usually present in staff rest rooms/canteens etc.  Surely if it is used away from direct product contact in the factory it is not a risk to product safety and auditors should not be concerning themselves?

It would still be classified as a chemical on site!

Just like cazynycmru says: Its still a Chemical on site, which must be controlled and thats what auditors are looking for.

I took over our chemical registry a few years ago and its been quite a task to handle. (I like challanges, lol) But also being a Quality Assurance Supervisor at my facility i double check and always make sure my lab chemicals are kept up to date and on file along with the MSDS. Which does include "Fairy Liquid" type chemicals..... "Dawn Dish Detergent".
