We're doing our initial start up for getting our SQF Certification Level 2 and have some questions for anyone already SQF certified with packaging materials. We run our facility 24/7 and sometimes our quality dept isn't working on the weekends but our operators and other personnel are responsible for quality checks that quality verifies from weekend activity. As far as product release goes, its my understanding that all inspections have to be completed and passed before we release product but we do have checks as product is being loaded to the trailer. If finished product has been evaluated and wrapped and being stored in the warehouse are we safe to say at that point is when we release the product? Just wondering because I don't have the time to have shipping personnel going back to look at operator records to verify that finished product is ok to release and would rather say that once product is released to the warehouse it is acceptable. What does everyone else do for pre-shipment of packaging products?

Dear dbloomstrand,
If finished product has been evaluated and wrapped and being stored in the warehouse are we safe to say at that point is when we release the product?
Hopefully Yes but validatably not yet.
Not an SQF user but "product release" in FS standards typically means positive product release. This requires you minimally having a form which documents the (safety) justification for yr readiness to ship X, eg has validatable-to-auditor cross-references to relevant records.
If you try a little searching "product release" I have no doubt that you will get some explanative hits for BRC / SQF.
