Yesterday I got my company recertified ISO 22000:2005 (we are certfied since 2007) and my external audit gave me a conformity for the following reason:

"The internal audit process is not audited / evaluated"

The external auditor's point was that although internal audits are carried out experienced and competent independent group of auditors, the internal audit process clause 8.4.1 must be evuluated. But internal auditors cannot audit their own work!

Its very confusing. Can anyone hlep?

The above statement seems to convey following message to you.

 

Clause 8.4.3 requires that the food safety team should analyse the results of verification activities including the results of the internal audits.

 

The auditor, most probably, indicated you that you should evaluate how effective your internal audit process is by analyzing systematically the results of your audits, the issues faced during audits and evaluations of outcomes with respect to your audit plan.

 

In other words, you have not performed the "Check" part of PDCA of Internal auditing process.

The same argument was used by me but unfortunately the auditor insisted that the internal audit process must be audited.
