If you have an unannounced BRC audit this year, does this audit go towards your unannounced audit requirement in the new standard coming out in 2023?

I'm not sure that BRCGS has explicitly clarified this either way, but my reading of the BRCGS079 position statement is that it implies this to be the case - the example schedule given in it spans a long enough period to necessarily cover the transition between versions of the standard.

Also consider if e.g. you were due your first unannounced audit against Issue 8 in 2023, but instead Issue 9 launches so you have your first audit against that. They can't reset your counter for unannounced years, as that year necessarily has to be an unannounced audit for BRC  to stay compliant to the requirements of the GFSI benchmark element from which this arises, which is independent of versions of the benchmarked standards themselves.

Latest version of the BRC position statement here just in case you haven't seen it: https://www.brcgs.co...21-01032021.pdf

I wouldn't be surprised if BRCGS themselves provide a bit more clarity on this nearer the time ;)
