Hi, is this the right forum for environmental health and safety questions?
I just got myself a bit involved in EHS at my work place after the quality system got implemented and is up and running.
But it is NOT my area of expertise. So I just would like to know where I can, for a start learn about the rules and regs in Europe, as they form, obviously, the foundation of the standards are expected to implement.

EHS is possibly a bit tangential to food safety, but equally I imagine that many of us have been pulled into helping out in that area at one point or another in our careers

 

My limited understanding is that, at the EU level, there are only Directives rather than Regulations, so actual requirements and implementation is set via national legislation in the member states. My experience has certainly been that approaches and expectations can vary quite widely even amongst sites within a single company where these are in different countries.

 

If your remit is a site in Denmark then I'd start with the website of your local regulator (Work Environment in Denmark, https://at.dk/ ?) as they are likely to have a good overview of the requirements.

Yeps kind of tangential but at the same time all the same basics standard built on legal requirements, a lot of paperwork, staff training, and targets. Plus it's the same program we use for all the documents. 😉

That isn't to say I think it's fun, but now we are BRC certified so EHS is the next focus 😅

Similar to Post 2, many of the BRC threads originate in UK. Afai can remember all the EHS type queries seem to devolve down to  the EA - GOV.UK  National Organisation (inc. pre-Brexit). Bit like OSHA in US presumably.

IIRC Scandinavia is famous for length of paternity/maternity leave.

I would start at the beginning. Instead of trying to wrap your head around the labyrinth of laws and regulations, do you know which standard you are being held to?

Typically, Regulatory trumps Private Standards where a choice exists.

 I should have said that differently: only figure out the law for the countries and areas that apply to you.
