I don't know about Canada. In the US, companies will ask (or train you) in the following:
- 2 days (16 hrs) HACCP (or relevant HACCP in Juice, dairy or seafood)
- PCQI
- GFSI internal audit including GMP
However, I have seen several job positing for FSQA lead auditors that require the following:
- 5 days (40 hrs) lead auditor training certificate on GFSI standards (FSSC 22000, BRC, IFS, Primus, SQF...)
- HACCP training (normally to be recognized HACCP International)
FYI, some companies requires that you should be trained by a training agency that is recognized by Exemplar or IRCA.
In general, I believe, you do not need a new training if you have completed the courses mentioned above. However, if you work in a specialized field, it may need specialized training which is usually provided by the employer. So do not invest on repeated training.
But if have enough manufacturing or QA experience in the food sector and not certified as lead auditor, then getting certified as a lead auditor may open some new doors for you with auditing/consulting firms like NSF, SCS Global Services, Derka, AIB, SGS, DNV, SAI global and others.
