Hi,

 

Just a quick question.

 

A business has approached me this morning regarding BRC and which accreditation would be relevant for her business.

 

She's looking to buy frozen meat products abroad (mainly Europe), have them packaged under her own brand name at the site where they are processed and then transported to the UK and delivered directly to the customer. So no manufacturing or storage related processes involved. So I'm thinking BRC Agents & Brokers?

 

Any advice would be much appreciated!

If they are processed and packaged at another site without her brand name on and she bought them for sale here  - would that be classed as manufacturing? She is providing the primary packaging, so they are not being re-packaged.

What she actually said was that she is looking to buy from BRC approved suppliers and have them package the goods under her brand, they aren't producing specifically for her, shes buying their products and having them packaged in her brand packaging.

 

The label will be applied at the processing plant, she is quite literally buying and selling, from supplier to customer, so something like BRC Food seems a bit excessive for the packaging component of the manufacturing process only. three quarters of the standard won't apply surely? nd if the sites are already BRC accredited then ...

 

Am I missing the point here?

So she provides the label to them and does not apply the label herself/in her own facility. -- based on that it would be Agent and Broker.

Thank you .. I actually thought that myself but the 'own brand' packaging was the thing that threw me .. I thought maybe there was some rules around this that I had overlooked ... If she was removing the food from its original packaging and putting it into her own branded packaging, then that would feel more like an aspect of manufacturing but they are not being opened once packaged.

It doesn't matter what the brand is that is being packed into. It also doesn't matter if she was removing the food from its original packaging and putting it into her own branded packaging, so long as she (your client) isn't actually the one doing it at her premises.

 

A client would be Agents and Brokers if they were to buy and sell the product but it was never to physically come to their site. She could also be managing a number of services through subcontractors and that's okay too.

 

From what you have described here, it seems like an Agents and Brokers audit with associated services of repacking (I know it's technically just packing, but for your audit the service is called repacking) and distribution. It may also potentially storage, export and import depending on who manages which aspect.

It's an absolute minefield - I've been sifting through the legislation - so what I need to determine is who is storing and distributing the product .. jeez the plot thickens .. I assume that she is using their network / logistics but then if she is having the product independently by another party then this could change things again? 

 

So many variables - I will find out today about the storage and distribution aspect. The repacking thing is bonkers, that's not actually what is happening but that's just my opinion.
