I am curious....

We are a not gluten free facility. CFIA came to our facility for spice samples to test for gluten. We do not have gluten free claim on any of our product and it is not a purchase requirement on our end.

Does anyone know if there is a CFIA level of gluten that we have to adhere in general?

I am curious...

Sooooooooooooo   gluten comes from wheat , and sometimes that is added to spices for various reasons

You need to know what regulations apply to you-and gluten (from wheat) is a big 8 allergen    It is your job to know whether or not your spices contain wheat/gluten and how much so you know what you do and do not need to include

Food allergen source, gluten source and added sulphites statement Food allergen source, gluten source and added sulphites statement, means a statement appearing on the label of a prepackaged product that indicates the source of a food allergen or gluten that is present in the product or the presence in the product of added sulphites in a total amount of 10 ppm or more [B.01.010.1(1), FDR].   https://inspection.c...-allergens#s4c2

Fraud.  Like Scampi suggests, would be my guess if that is all they looked at.

Spices are relatively expensive per unit weight, and a fair amount of fraud occurs at the grinding and blending stages to substitute valuable spices with all kinds of things.  Some aren't even food, like plaster, or materials that pose a danger to people with allergies, like flour, or are just straight up poison like lead chromate in cinnamon.
