Turkey is a major exporter of fresh grapefruits.
Exports to the EU have been increasing in recent years.
Regulation (EU) 2019/1793 establishes an intensified border control system.
This European Regulation is updated every six months.
Its latest amendment, dated December 2024 (Regulation (EU) 2024/3153), is currently force.
Its update was recently voted in favor of by the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCPAFF).

Annex I of the Regulation includes Turkish grapefruit for the determination of pesticide residues.
The draft submitted for vote includes a reduction in the sampling frequency from the current 20% to 10%, which will be applied when the amendment enters into force.
This amendment will reduce analytical costs and delays in importing this product into the EU.
