Turkey is a major exporter of fresh tomatoes. Exports to the EU have been increasing in recent years. Regulation (EU) 2019/1793 establishes an intensified border control system.
This European Regulation is updated every six months. Its latest amendment, dated December 2024 (Regulation (EU) 2024/3153), is currently in force.
Its update was recently voted in favor of by the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCPAFF).
The approved draft includes in Annex I the Turkish text, which, as soon as the new Regulation comes into force, will entail systematic border controls of Turkish tomatoes with a 20% sampling rate for pesticide determination.
