Hi,

I have just joined a new startup food company and will be exporting to EU.
What certifications are required to export.

HAACP & ISO9000 OR ISO22000?

Which one has more commercial value in the market

Plz suggest and why??

Yr post is ultra - vague!

Any eu requirements will minimally depend on the product (oleo - resins ??? ) and the origin (and sometimes the specific eu destination also)

All the standards (if you can call HACCP a standard) you mention are useful commercially though 2 are specifically safety related and 9000 is not. Relative importance may depend on yr customer / market + top mentioned parameters + +.

I agree with the others you need a sound technical / quality management system with HACCP included. There is no legal requiement for any specific Certification in order to export to the EU, but there will be customer requirements. IFS is popular in Germany and France and BRC is the choice in the UK. Which country is your target market?

Not too sure about this. I think there are some exceptions. Why? is another good question. High risk items maybe ??

EG, for seafood, many (all?) exporters in third world countries are specifically required to have a HACCP system which has been certified (inspected / approved / certificated) by a designated government organisation (= so-called "competent authority"). Such companies are identified by an (approved by) EC number.

I suspect this may apply to 1st and 2nd World countries not in the EC also.

Sadly, most EC customers (and others) still additionally require BRC, etc !!

MMM depends on the product. You may need a Health Decleration certificate.

I should clarify I was talking specifically about Management Systems Certifications as per the original question from Sandy. I wouldn’t have a clue about health certificates. In fact we don’t even know the food products Sandy intends to supply. Maybe that would help.

Sandy can you tell us what food products you will be exporting to the EU?

Thanks for all ur replys.......

The products we would be exporting are the CO2 extarcts of spices and herbs (like ginger oil).

We would be exporting to france. We do have a marketing team in france but they are not

sure abt it.I have tons of ques..next time.

Hi,

Most of the certificates required is as per the customer requirement. I think better to contact the customer and understand their requirements.

to export from india, i think you require Export inspection council, spice board certificates etc. you can contact spices board for more details

as per customer requirements may be you have to obtain the following

ISO 9001
HACCP / ISO 22000

may be

Kosher
Halal
Health certificate
ISO 14001
Organic etc...

Hi,
I think your company should better go for BRC-global standard food.
It covers ISO 9001 (QMS), HACCP and a part of ISO 14000 (Enviromental standard).
Most of the european countries recommend their clients to be BRC certified as BRC is European standard.
