Not had a whinge for a bit.

The kids are off school for SIX WEEKS so I've taken a few days out to do some family stuff. We decided to visit the Camelot theme park http://www.camelotthemepark.co.uk because it's quite close to us and we hadn't been before. Some decent rides and a Very good knight's in armour show, with jousting, sword fencing etc. but apart from that the place is pretty naff, overpriced, and dirty - the toilets were a disgrace. Not only that some of the rides you had to pay extra for and there was dozens of stalls littered throughout the park pushing cheap Chinese cuddly toys through a variety of ‘games' - the guys running these stalls were really on the hard sell and must have been paid on commission.

The price for the day £16 per person, concessions only for OAP's and kids under 1 metre tall; so it cost us £64 for 2 adults, 2 kids and a baby. We had a similar experience at Gulliver's world last year. I don't profess to being a theme park guru, but I can compare my experience of UK theme parks with ones in the States like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Universal Studios etc. These places are what I would describe as World Class. It seems to me in the UK we have gotten used to paying top dollar for barely acceptable.

BTW we did have a good time and I've got a cracking photo from the log flume.

We are going to a wedding just down the road from Camelot in a couple of weeks time, we were all going to visit on the Sunday, not so sure now though!!

We went to Alton Towers at the weekend, it now costs £28 for an adult ticket and £21 for 4-12 year olds, I took my niece who has just turned 4, and I am not ashamed to say that I lied about her age, why pay £21 for a 4 year old who can only go on about 5 rides. I like the idea of paying by height better!!

Had a good time though, apart form nearly losing a contact lense on Oblivion!! (it turned up at the back of my eye a couple of hours later!!)

Surely the same effect can be had by eating all the Macdonalds you can ram down your throat, then get someone to push you down a hill in a dustbin - must be a saving of nearly £50 on average, methinks?!

Must start stopping by here more often - have sadly neglected the bosom of my packaging comrades recently!

Perhaps it wasn't as bad as I make it sound; you have to remember I'm just an old grump. The kinghts were really good - definitely take a packed lunch though, and maybe a commode.

You make me laugh Mike, you're probably right. Apart from a big scratch /dint on the screen the Asda telly is doing fine. I dropped it face down on the conservatory floor when we were decorating - should see the floor.

Apparently the wedding reception venue is right next to Camelot, so there we will all be, hungover, ready to go on some rides!! It could get very messy!!

Don't ask me mate my kids are 5 (x2) and 1 and I'm a 39 year old wimp. They went on lots of things that go round very slowly and I only went on one ride with them "The Log Flume.' The LF was very short and scary, I was expecting lot's of little up's and downs before the finale, instead it goes round a corner then up, up, up, up and then AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

I have a photo which I may consider posting. Don't worry there are lot's of rides for boisterous drunks. Don't miss the jousting it's good fun. Maybe you could post a photo or two.

Well, we all wussed out!!

After a wedding that was held literally next door to Camelot, after a warning that drinks were very expensive, so we all rattled due to the small bottles of various spirits about our persons, the wedding went on until 1am, when we then decided to try and trek across a field (short cut!!) back to the travel lodge on the M6 - talk about crossroads, this place came right out of the 50s.

We all woke up on Sunday morning feeling a little worse for wear, it wasn't the idea of the rides we couldn't cope with, but the thought of breathing alcohol fumes on all of the children, or was it just the idea of being around children!

So we all packed up our cars and went our seperate ways, in order to get home and sleep the rest of the day away. Maybe next time we venture up north we might actually get round to sampling the delights of camelot!

Ah well....the best laid plans of mice and men...and all that kinda stuff. So long as you had a good time and it sounds like you did. And I thought it was just the northern lasses who owned handbags with mini bars.
