In a past life I received an internal email notifying me a big lady from a big customer would be arriving at 9.00 A.M the following morning to carry out an audit. I thought I was replying to my colleague (not all) when I said:

'God she's keen she better be gone by 11. And I'm having the moose's helping of lunch too!'

Just to note we used to order buffet lunches for customers.

When you realise what you've done what can you do?
Totally unprofessional I know but I'm sure it happens all the time.

My worst is e mailing a company in Italy who I had visited thanking them for their hostility (instead of hospitality) damn the spell checker!

It wasn't mentioned and in fact we developed a very good relationship over the years. I felt very guilty though.

I once referred to a canteen's HACCP as being developed by "some consultant who has never visited the site" which was fair and true, however, I didn't expect the person I sent it to to forward it to the consultant. Thanks.

Anyhoo, had an "interesting" meeting with him which at least meant he saw the canteen and the issues we'd been having but not professional at all.

I think some people take pleasure in dropping you in it by forwarding emails which obviously weren't meant to be forwarded, that's why I try and communicate mostly in person or on the phone nowadays (and it tends to be more effective anyway.)

My new years resolution is to send less email and do more talking. Email is supposed to make us more efficient, but I think it makes us slaves to our computers and desks.
