To everyone,

I am new here and I am from Philippines and a Food Technologist by profession. I would like to ask if Codex has set standard limits for metal length and diameter. Is it really 2 mm in diameter? US standards says it should be >7 mm in length.

Don't recall Codex ever making such a general suggestion but not impossible that could occur in some specific product scoring guideline somewhere.

I seem to recall that the US will accept a variety of "hazardous" interpretations if we are talking about standards for haccp critical limits. From memory 7mm was stated as having been successfully used for some USFDA regulatory actions. Other authorities hv their own opinions, one link on thus forum has a value nearer 5mm I think. Spin the dice.

Perhaps more pragmatic to use the machine specs which IMEX auditors will always accept (assuming you hv a machine ).

There's nothing stated in the codex but, Metal detector specs are far less than what you had mentioned. Old technology is detecting up to 3.0mm and New technology can detect up to 2.0mm. Hope it help.

I agree with Charles, auditors will ussually accept machines specs, however most will want to hear that you based your decision for machine specs off of something like the US FDA 7 mil standard. They will also want to hear that your customers agreed with the limit chosen.
