Dear All food safetiers,

Now I start to implementing PAS 220:2008 in my company. Could anybody give the samples evidence for clause 18. Food defence, biovigilance and bioterrorism?
It is enough if we only create access control?or we should create a new procedure?

Thank you.

Think food safety.

Regards,

K. Edwards

Hi K Edwards,

Although Food defence, biovigilance and bioterrorism includes access control it also requires many more controls. Can you post the requirements of clause 18 and we can provide further advice.

Regards,
Simon

Dear Simon,

Thank you for your respond.
Below the requirement :
1. Food defence, biovigilance and bioterrorism

1.1 General requirements

Each establishment shall assess the hazard to products posed by potential acts of sabotage, vandalism or terrorism and shall put in place proportional protective measures.

NOTE: for further information and guidance on approaches to the protection of food businesses from all forms of malicious attack see PAS 96

1.2 Access control

Potential sensitive areas within the establishment shall be identified, mapped and subjected to access control.

NOTE : Where feasible, access should be physically restricted by use of locks, electronic card key or alternative systems.

Rgds,

K. Edwards

According to my knowledge, we have to do a Vulnerability Assessment and document results as described in AIBI Standards. A written food defense program includes information related to a trained coordinator, team members contact information and food defense annual review. You will take measures after assessment in detail. Vulnerability Assessment checklist may be downloaded froM FSIS for guidance. you can take more information from AIBI standards and i think FDA website.
