Good Day All,

I would like to know if any of you would like to be a guest speaker within one of my modules starting in September 2012? I need about 2 guest speakers in total.

This would be for about 1 hour or so - and you have to be confident at speaking to about 20-30 students.

The students would be 3rd year BSc Food Science & Technology.

The module is Food Quality Management and it would be excellent for the students to be given a presentation by someone currently in this field - it saves listening to boring Simon every week :-)

This role does not offer any money unfortunately, however would look very good on your CV, and if you have a LinkedIn account, I would be happy to add a recommendation following this.

Please let me know if this is something that would interest you?

Ideally I am looking for people with lots of experience that can share a couple of stories/experiences.

Kind Regards,

Simon

Simon,

Intersting post and I find more interesting and challening to be one of your guest speakers!

Let me know what you need to know about myself (more than 8 years of experience in Quality functions of Food manufacturing) and other information such as preparation, dates, travelling etc.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Kind Regards

Kostantinos

Dear Simon

I am Debadutta Jayaprakash a quality management system technologist and University of Leeds graduate . I have got excellent experience on food quality management system and HACCP designing . I love teaching and I have worked as a project instructor for undergaduates. I have done masters in food science and do understand , how important it is for food science graduate to have an idea on quality management system and thrid party audit according to GFSI standards such as BRC, ISO 22000 and UK retailers . I would love to be one of your guest speaker and present my ideas on preparation of inhouse QMS and HACCP . MY only concern is I am based in Hull and I am not sure how far I need to travel. I am kind of go green person so don't drive and depends on public transport only for my daily needs . I have got a great passion for teaching and I have presented many national and international seminars . If you want to know more about me or my skills which can help your students please get back to me on my personal message and we will take it from there .

Regards
Debadutta

I remember our class in college having something similar. Fantastic, enthusiastic people from the food industry came in and spoke in depth of the joys of working in food and encouraged us to graduate and go change the world of food forever.

How I hate those people.

I hate them all so much.

Give me an hour with them and they'll be in first year arts by december.

But everything about the meat industry is so awesome!

I mean ... other than the pay ... and the long hours ... and the crappy work conditions ... and all of the regulations and codes and what not.

Other than that though...

Dear Shea quay,

Yes, thanks for the chuckles.

I suggest you might investigate some "inspiring" interests so as to rationalise your evident bitterness.

How about - http://www.v-great.c...CFUp76wodTE2gew ?

@ Mesophile - Apologies for the extended OTs. If i was anywhere near you and had a sing-song accent, I would cheerfully volunteer (assuming no hard objects sold at venue).

Maybe you could request some "printable" real life incidents which hv been observed during forum members' manufacturing careers. To be delivered by proxy.

For example, how many auditors here have encountered a full-size, commercial shrimp plate freezer located in the garden in front of the "producer's" house.? Sadly hv no picture to validate.

Not to mention the, ISO 9001 approved, packaging manufacturer whose (square) establishment had a roof but only 3 walls so as to improve ventilation.

How does the song go - Memories are made of this.... ?

Hi All,

Thank you for your comments (all of them  )

I am sorry however the guest lecturing does not come with any sort of fuel expense/cost expense etc... however I will buy you lunch at our lovely student restaurant.

Guest lectures would be

Wednesdays 11am - 12pm (this year Oct - Dec)
Thursday 3pm - 4pm (next year Jan - Apr)

If anyone is still interested (lunch is not bad) please let me know. I am looking for 1 place this year and 1 place next year. Week number to suit.

Alternatively, if any of you have any stories regarding working in the food industry (photographs would be brilliant!) please post these.

Cheers,

Simon

Haha I don't think Simon has a travel budget.

Haha I do agree with Charles C. I think you should find some "inspiration" despite that bitterness. I do feel your confusion. If your not in-love with your work why not change of career? It might help you.

Thank you Debadutta,

It has taken me a while to reply as I have tried to look at the potential for a budget for this, however to no avail. I have managed to get a Technical Manager from a local company who will discuss QMS and the Retailer Needs, along with someone within the Food Standards Agency and Environmental Health, to discuss the Food Hygiene Rating Systems.

Travelling from Hull to my University is about a 6 hour drive by car or 8-9 hours by bus (National Express). I think this would be a little excessive for a 1-2 hour lecture.

I am sorry you live so far away as the passion within your comments above would cirtainly be good to show the students.

Kind Regards,

Simon
