I am having a hard time finding a definition for "categorized waste" BRC 4.12.1

Anyone know?

It refers to materials that by regulatory requirement you have to separate or segregate. In Europe there are some places that legally require manufacturers to separate and recycle certain materials like glass, metals and plastics. In North America it would generally revolve around hazardous waste type materials.

Th other part of that clause refers to waste contractor licensing in general. Depending on the state or county, your contractor may need a license to transport waste, and certainly would need a license to dispose of or treat waste. Those you should have copies of on file for the audit.

It also refers to the disposal of waste of animal origin in order to prevent harmful materials getting back into the animal feed and hence food chain.

It is a development from the BSE crisis a few years ago.

In the UK, depending upon what the waste is, whether for instance it has been extracted from drains, it is given a risk category and the waste disposal contractor will need to have a license appropriate to that level.
