hi all,

I request you people to help me in taking corrective action against a non conformance raised by the BRC auditors.

NON CONFORMANCE: 7.1.5 Minor: "Organization regularly reviews the training needs of the employees and has made a training schedule for 2013 however Competency review for 2013 is not conducted"

kindly help me with some sample document to understand how to assess the competency and to understand the real meaning of the above mentioned comment,

kind regards,

QAMalpha,

I created competency checklists for each job function in the processing areas ( mixers, depositors  receiving clerk, packagers, engineers, sanitation ect).  The checklists are a series of questions based on the job description ( BRC 1.2.2) for each job. I have a attached an example. Hope this helps.

From BRC Clause 7.1.5

'The company shall routinely review the competencies of its staff'

From BRC Guidance
'The company shall ensure there is ongoing assessment of staff competency in their roles..
e.g. through 1 to 1 appraisals, team performance monitoring by line managers, review of the results of internal audits or review of records...'

I personally quite like the example posted by Bill as this is clear cut in the competencies required for each individual whereas results of internal audits or review of records may not be.

Regards,

Tony

Hi

We had similar problem few years ago with BRC and then we developed "assessment" questionnaire  to use after training to  assess  knowledge of each trainee. BRC accepted this approach.

Hope your auditor will accept that as well

I agree that a quiz/test after training is a good way of demonstrating understanding and competency of the employee.

You can also observe employees completing their jobs as part of your internal audit system

Agreed, Simmilarly we can define the required Skill / Competency Map for all the activity in the organisation, we verify it with the existing individual working in the same area and identify the training needs.

Can you be more specific in the area of training that you were cited for? At our facility, we currently run annual food safety training through a system that records all the answers given. They are trained on possible sources on contamination, hand washing, and overall sanitation. The associates are required to have a 100% accuracy in their answers. We also do conduct "work instruction" training on a pre determined schedule based on risk assesment.
