I treat them as such and have our Shipping & Receiving Manager do a 3 x 2 risk analysis similar to what we do for our raw material and packaging suppliers in the Supplier Approval Program. This is done for all carriers on an annual basis.

A definite yes. It is not unusual for these vendors to sign off on a code of practice as part of the approval process.

We get them to sign a specif contract which mentions everything about vehicle condition, temperatures to be maintained etc. We use a checklist also using which the condition of the truck given for carrying the food is checked randomly. We summarize the checks on monthly basis and share them with the vendor.
