My facility installed our first x-ray machine just over a year ago. We need it to be re-calibrated prior to an up coming audit for a customer, unfortunately we kinda dropped the ball on this and don't have much time to get it done. Safeline wont have a service tech in our area for some time, and to have a tech come out will cost way to much.

What other companies perform x-ray calibration services? My facility is located in western New York.

There is nothing wrong with the machine, we just need a third party calibration/verification. I know it is gonna cost some $$ no matter what but Safeline would have to send a tech out of Florida and the travel expense alone....

You could try:

but,... Having a Safeline tech come out from Florida doesn't seem that bad, back in 2008-2009 we had BEST come in and do calibrations on our x-ray unit. They are based out of Englewood, CO.  My facility is also based in WNY

Dear Cody13 -

You need to consider the $$ involved in having a Tech come out to the repercussions of your failing to conduct re-calibration on the required timeline. Sometimes the bite of the extra cost this time will encourage a solid solution to prevent a recurrence - may just have to bite the bullet...

Given the cost of an X-Ray machine, I would be very hesitant to have someone other than a man'f or an approved company even touch our machine!

I agree with what the others are saying; hell of an oversight not to have put the calibration of the X Ray machine on your calibration schedule. You'll have to take the hit with the costs.

As an aside, do you pass test pieces through it each day, same as you would a metal detector?  I ask because if you do, and its only just out of the calibration window, you could have a concession in place, but say that you do the checks more frequently. Auditor might buy it.

Thanks for the insight. I fully expect to bite the bullet and pay up (its gonna make upper management soil their pants when they see the bill), just thought I would ask around for alternatives and maybe get a lucky break. The machine runs almost non stop on 3 shifts, each shift runs test cards through it 4 times. Unpacked product runs through a metal detector prior to being packaged, the X-Ray is at the end of the packing line.
