Hello,

The facility I work for is currently AIB GMP certified, but one of our large customers is requesting BRC certification.  I am wondering if anyone could help me out with what I think may be an issue with BRC Standards VS AIB?  We manufacture labels so we will be audited to the BRC Packaging Standards, we use a line clearance procedure which has been ok with AIB in the past.  To sum it up we have 16 Presses and only 'line cleared' presses are required to wear hairnets, no water for drinking ect.  The rest of the facility is not required to wear hairnets.  We do have a very thorough housekeeping program in place so cleanliness is not an issue, I am only concerned about not having a facility wide hairnet policy.  Has anyone dealt with this situation before or have any insight for me as this is my first BRC audit.  Thank you in advance

Hi Craig,

 

 

The standard does specify that appropriate protective clothing shall be worn in production and storage areas to minimise the risk of product contamination. If you want to exclude then you will need to come up with a hazard and risk assessment to justify the exclusion.

I don't have a copy of BRC packaging so I'm curious about above.

Are you saying that BRC typically interpret "appropriate protective clothing" for the storage area as including hairnets ? Sounds like an Interesting risk assessment.

Thank you for the reply.  We have procedures in place protecting the product (both raw material and finished product) throughout the rest of the facility until it enters a cleared line, I am hoping this will be sufficient.  Our food contact packaging to non-food contact packaging production ratio is about 20% food 80% non.  Looks like I have a little work ahead of me as the BRC standards are much more thorough than any other GMP audit I've participated in.
