Hello to all,

Is there any reference or standards regarding building and ground requirement  which indicates or recommends that the vegetated areas must be of a certain distance from the perimeter wall of the building of a food mfg or pharma?

I hope I can have answer/s from here.

Sincerely,

Margaux

A 50 cm wide strip of crushed gravel / pea stone or rounded pebbles or paved area is placed around the perimeter walls of the facility to separate the operation from all green space.  It is recommended to use landscape weed fabric below the stone or pebbles in order to reduce weed growth.  Alternatively, pest control evaluation or assessment must be considered.    While it is not absolutely required to lay the 50cm rock perimeter around the building to comply with the standard, it is seen as the best method assure easy inspection and control of vegetation and animal intrusion into the building.  This would make the best possible impression on an auditor and reduce the ongoing workload on your staff. It is much easier to control weed and plant growth with a rock perimeter and a monthly walk around the building as part of the normal inspection process would allow for easier maintenance of the perimeter area.
