Hi:

Some advice/guidance needed:

We are a glass manufacturing facility and are working our way to becoming food safety compliant, one of the requirements is that the lightning should be covered or shielded (to prevent breakage and explosion of the bulbs that may contaminate the product)

What  we are investing in are LED lights that according to the manufacturer are Explosion proof, impact resistant, corrosion proof, water proof and some other energy efficient benefits.

One other option we are looking at is LED bulbs to replace some our our current glass bulbs, however the "dome" unit which will house these will not be shielded but the bulb itself will carry the same characteristics as indicated above.

Will this be sufficient to satisfy the requirement of the lightning requirement (once we can prove the bulbs are LED and are Explosion proof, impact resistant, corrosion proof, water proof according to manufacturer specs?

your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We have exposed shatterproof bulbs in our facility. Used to have coverings for them, but found that it was easier to remove the coverings and just go with the bulbs so we didn't have to worry about replacing cracked or damaged light covers.

You should still maintain a monthly audit on the condition of all of those bulbs.  Also keep the shatterproof documentation handy for any inspector/auditor.
