Being somewhat new to starting an SQF program from scratch I have a question. We are a coffee roasting (import beans) and packaging company. I know module 2 we all do. I am leaning towards module 11 also. Any input would be appreciated. :coffee:

Have you identified your "food sector" category, or is that what is nebulous?

11 is what I have determined to suit us best. Just looking for another opinion I guess. I would hate to focus on that and then decide something else is more fitting.

I think Module 11 will be correct, but note module is different than "Food Sector Category" see page 191 of the SQF Code 7.2.  I was thinking your sector might be 19 but it appears to be sector 16 (to which Module 11 applies) but I also know nothing about your operation.

As you're preparing for SQF certification, you'll want to show that you reviewed the food sector categories to determine which module(s) are applicable.

You have to do Module 2 (everyone) plus the Module that fits your food sector category.  Reference to both these modules should be listed somewhere in your top level SQF policies.  This lets the auditor know which module to use for doing the audit.

I have helped multiple coffee companies. I believe you are under FSC 16 and must follow Modules 2 and 11.

Brian,

It is your SQF food sector categories or category that dictate what the Modules are.

All have module 2.

It appears on the surface that you have FSC 16 (beverage, etc.) and this equates to module 11.

With that said you mentioned packaging... if you are just bringing in packaging and packing coffee into packaging like most of our coffee roasting clients do the FSC 16 and modules 2 & 11 apply.

If you are on the other hand manufacturing packaging you then need to look up the secondary module that applies to FSC 27 and add that pre-requisite module in addition to 2 & 11.
