Hello all,

My plant is currently certified to FSSC 22000 for two years now and I have been looking into the changes that are coming with FSSC 22000 version 4. It does not seem like there will be a tremendous amount of change, mostly just the added "fun" of having an unannounced audit and a bit more intensive look at food defense and food fraud. My question is: where does one acquire a copy of the FSSC 22000:2016 (presumably) v4 document? I currently only have a copy of the FSSC 22000:2005 standard. I have been trying to find somewhere to attain/order it online but have met with little success. I understand that the v4 document is not finalized yet so I do not want to shell out money for anything until the latest and greatest information is out there, but to know where to look would be useful.

I also have seen the voluntary FSSC 22000-Q module and am trying to learn more about it, what benefits it would provide over just a regular FSSC 22000. If anyone is certified to this and has any insights, that would be fantastic! Additionally I am trying to figure out where I can get a copy of the ISO 9001:2015 document, unless FSSC 22000-Q has its own document that is FSSC 22000 melded with the ISO 9001...

Thanks!

Jason

Hi Jason,

The FSSC 22000 Certification scheme is based on ISO 22000, FSSC Additional Requirements and Applicable Technical Specifications:

ISO 22000:2005 Food safety management systems -- Requirements for any organization in the food chain

Part I - Requirements for organizations that require certification (version 3.2 - 2015)
Additional requirements
Appendix I A
1.Specifications for services
2.Supervision of personnel in application of food safety principles
3. Specific regulatory requirements
4. Announced, but unscheduled audits of certified organisations
5. Management of Inputs
6. Management of natural resources such as water and soil regarding animal production
7. Food defence, bio vigilance and bioterrorism (extension to animal production)

and Applicable PRP Technical Specifications:
ISO/TS 22002-1:2009 Prerequisite programmes on food safety -- Part 1: Food manufacturing
ISO/TS 22002-2:2013 Prerequisite programmes on food safety -- Part 2: Catering
ISO/TS 22002-3:2011 Prerequisite programmes on food safety -- Part 3: Farming
ISO/TS 22002-4:2013 Prerequisite programmes on food safety -- Part 4: Food packaging manufacturing
New prerequisite program for storage & distribution in pipeline

In 2015 FSSC added the voluntary ISO 9001:2008 module to the existing FSSC 22000 certification scheme, offering a combined FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 certificate:
FSSC 22000-Q - Certification module for food quality (version 1 - 2015)
Certification module for food quality in compliance with  ISO 9001:2008

ISO 9001:2008 Quality management systems -- Requirements has been withdrawn which is strange given that the FSSC 22000 voluntary module is still using that version !

I expect many schemes to be updated soon after the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements - Guidance Document Version 7 is published. Version 7 I would think will include updated food defence requirements, food fraud mitigation requirements and perhaps rewording of HACCP requirements to fit with FSMA.

Kind regards,

Tony

Further to my previous post I have been in touch with FSSC and they hope to publish amended documents for FSSC 22000-Q referencing ISO 9001:2015 by the end of the year.
