We are a low risk level 3 SQF certified facility. Being that it is colder outside we are noticing an increase in sweatshirts and jackets hanging over railings from when employees start to get a little warmed up and remove their sweatshirt or jacket.  I remember there being a code in SQF that talked about clothing not used should be stored on racks or lockers. However, i am not seeing it anywhere in Ed.8. If it is listed in the code or if someone has any more information that they can provide please do.

Same problem here, our plant swings from 50ºf in the winter to 90 ºf in the summer, with big swings during the day.

They're steel and a year later they're holding up very well with no visible corrosion or damage. Keeps all the personnel clothing contained and away from any FC surface, and SQF auditor was into them. Ideally if you also have company clothing you would want one for each with a label as to what they're for as needed.

The employees have lockers provided for them. I believe this is a convenience issue, and not wanting to interrupt someone to go to the lockers provided just to put a jacket or coat away.

I know you said SQF, I don't have access to current SQF code but here's the CFR SQF took it from in case it helps:

CFR TITLE 2, CHAPTER I,PART 117, Subpart B,

Sec. 117.10 Personnel.

The management of the establishment must take reasonable measures and precautions to ensure the following:

 (1) Wearing outer garments suitable to the operation in a manner that protects against allergen cross-contact and against the contamination of food, food-contact surfaces, or food-packaging materials.

(7) Storing clothing or other personal belongings in areas other than where food is exposed or where equipment or utensils are washed.

For SQF ed. 8 look under 11.3.3 Clothing.

Section 11.3.3.2 Clothing worn by staff engaged in handling food shall be maintained, stored, laundered and worn so as not to present contamination risk to products.

 

Section 11.3.7.3 Provisions shall be made for staff to store their street clothing and personal items separate from food contact zones and food and packaging storage areas.

 

I would think that an auditor would comment if they were to find sweatshirts/coats hanging over railings.
