Anyone used the foot sanitizer unit called the 'HACCP Defender' from Best Sanitizers? How is this unit? Any feedback on this will be helpful, since we are looking into something like this.

Also, any recommendations on other forms of foot sanitization for a bakery?

Thank you! Piki

Presume this is the unit in question -

I have no experience of the kit,

The issue i face when looking at these types of equipment is achieving the required contact time with the sanitiser solution, this seems to achieve this as long as the only route in is via the kit - otherwise, human nature being what it is, they will find a way round it rather than standing for 10 seconds.

If workers are entering an area and staying in it, this type of kit makes sense, but if you have a lot of interaction with other areas, constantly having to leave it, then again getting people to "use" it may be an issue.

So I suppose it depends on the specific circumstances in which it is going to be used.

Piki -

We purchased some foot batch mats and added BoostFT from Ecolab.  Why add water to a dry process?

We have use for Alpet products (Best Sanitizers) in our facility.  Their one drawback is that they are all alcohol based.  Check with your safety team and fire codes before bringing their products in.

I had a co-packer in a previous life that used their products for sanitizing associate and visitor's footwear.  The results were very favorable and it didn't damage the soles of their work shoes.

Why do you need it?  In most plants I've worked in we've moved away from these kind of systems because they introduced more risk than they removed.

Hello Mark,

Boost FT is water activated. How do you achieve this?

This is the unit; and yes, the only route will be via this kit. You did bring up some good discussion points with my team. Than you for your comments.

We looked into something similar to that boot wash at our facility. Our processes are mostly dry and I was hesitant to add any more water to our environment, so we decided to just try dry step-through floor mats with a quat-based sanitizer powder instead.  We've seen amazing results and saved plenty of money with these alone.

Dry quat based all the way, regardless of environment. In wet, your not constantly changing gross boot dips.....granular beads at the in/out doors and then just add more  (diverysey G8) specifically

I think there's been numerous studies that show that the wet boot dips are commonly a source of harborage if you don't stay on top of them, as well as having to verify concentration of sanitizer liquid constantly. Just sounds like "yuck" to me.

I agree with the previous poster, I hate boot dips.  I've never used dry quat powder though and I love quats even if the EU doesn't (still can use them people, it's not a ban but that's another topic).  Can anyone tell me about some dry quat powders they've used and application systems?

I've used diversey G8 dry floor granular product. Just scatter it across entry areas and replenish as needed

Sterilex Ultra Step:

https://www.sterilex...ails/ultrastep/

We use for multiple applications - we have entryway mats (they are actually repurposed liquid mats), and also use a dry hand spreader to apply to floors as needed.  Very handy as a drain cleaner as well - when it's time to clean the entryway mats, empty into the drain.
