Good morning all I am looking to see if anyone can tell me the proper language to place on a label of frozen sword fish steaks in relation to thawing ie: remove from package or slit the package

that depends................do they ooze all over the place if you remove them to thaw/defrost?  Will the quality be impacted either way?

Good morning, no the product will not ooze and quality will not be effected. One on my supermarket chains is looking for different language on a frozen product we produce for them.

Note - depending on the specific presentation / glaze/ size of steaks, not / slitting / removing the container might cause a time factor.

Charles the label currently states the following:
IMPORTANT keep frozen until used, thaw under refrigeration immediately before use Contains ()

How About

 

"Keep Frozen"

 

"Thaw in refrigerator prior to cooking"

 

The word IMPORTANT doesn't need to be there............and has a scarier sound than your customer would like perhaps  (and I've not seen any meat product with that word on the label anywhere)

The current language is straight from the FDA Hazards Guide regarding instructions for vacuum packed product. Instructions need to be on each individual vacuum pack pouch, and there should be a CCP to check that the instructions are present. Also make sure the “contains” line has the word “swordfish” and not just “fish.” The “contains” statement is not mandatory, but the name of the fish needs to be declared on the package label in the ingredients statement. If you are selling raw swordfish without any other ingredients, then the name of the product will suffice as an ingredient statement.
