Hello,

I'm new to this form. I have started packaging (PET clamshells) business couple of months ago. I am familiar with ISO 9001 but not BRC or HACCP. So, my customer sent a questionnaire which has all the questions related to HACCP. I have read most of the very helpful posts on IFSQN and got familiar with the process, but still little bit confused about HACCP. Is it just a procedure that we can implement internally or is it a certification we require from a 3rd party registrar.  Is it mandatory for packaging? Please help.

Hi,

HACCP is essentially "identifying what could harm your product and putting processes in place to minimize them from happening".

Chances are this has already been completed informally. There are specific steps to gather this information and then it is compiled into a written HACCP plan.

The plan is used to direct internal processes.

An individual can get HACCP certified, but it is not an accreditation like BRC.

Think of it as a comprehensive summary of an organization's food safety program.

Hi DS2053,

I deduce from yr OP that you do not have a related technical background. And similarly for the personnel around you.

If you are seriously considering certification to a GFSI-recognised standard like BRC, i recommend you to rapidly get some professional help like from a Consultant. Or perhaps via yr Local-related Business Organisation.

You are almost certainly going to also need some tech-capable employees.

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

Hi DS2053

You can start by google the provincial agricultural food safety organization for your province  They all have really good basic information about HACCP

https://www.gov.mb.c...fety/index.html

Hi,
It depends on regulation. For example,in some countries, having HACCP certificate is mandatory otherwise authorized body won't issue health certificate for your products.

You will find BRC a nightmare without a HACCP background

As I mentioned, the provinces have some great material.
