Hi
Any one has done any risk assessment on cleaning brushes for equipment - The problem is while cleaniing the bristles come off and ended up in the mixer and potentially contaminte the product

Hi USIJ
As you are UK based I am assuming you are working to BRC 8?..attached
4.11.6 talks about cleaning equipment - and the interpretation notes mention bristles and their avoidance
Ideally you would have heat set brushes (less likely to lose bristles) and have a written check on condition every time the item is washed.
Some sites don't like to buy these as they are much more expensive but non heat set brushes do lose bristles so it's false economy.
If you already have both then look at incidences of loose bristles vs. amount of brushes used in a 12 month period to determine your risk level of bristles getting into product & perhaps add absence of bristles on cleaned equipment as part of the formal sign off after cleaning.
(I worked at a sausage factory & there were a number of pinch points where bristles could be trapped and often were - so we added this as one of the post clean equipment checks so somebody was responsible for checking this?...)
