Wow! It's the end of April already. This is about the time when we begin to look forward to our summer vacations and some well-deserved rest and recuperation.

With our baby due any day now it's doubtful we will manage to get away anywhere this year. However, I'm not bitter and I would love to hear what you have planned, or from the 'early birds' where you have been already. Pictures would be nice.

We may go to Germany for a long weekend in mic June for a music festival (Bang Your Head - will give you an idea as to the content ) Our fave band is playing a slot there and it would be interesting to see them outside of this country.

July is Florida. First time the kids will have flown

Wife may take the kids to Salou in october.

A band called BLAZE.

Named after the ex lead singer with Iron Maiden. Saw them twice withinin a week just the other week.

We're off to Canada for two weeks in July/August.
Have been wanting to go for years.....
Doing the west side this time, Calgary, Jasper, Banff and Vancouver. Missus wants to go whale watching off Vancouver Island
Will hopefully be able to catch up with a couple of bands/musicians as well while we're over there.
The Jeff Healey Band and Colin James - both not greatly recognised over here, but both excellent blues/rock exponents.
Will be able to get all the import stuff a lot cheaper over there!
Will be sure to post a picture or two when we get back.

I'm in the same position as you, after getting married last year, we're now expecting our first Late June. As such the chances of getting away with the 'family' are limited.

Before baby came along I was planning on taking my dad on a Scottish Whiskey tour of the distilleries for his 60th - might still try that

My sister is getting married in Las Vegas in November - as such I have to wait and see how we are coping with new baby - but would obviously love to go to my sisters wedding..

A new baby is worth missing more than a holiday or two. You really have got an interesting year of agony and ecstasy ahead. It takes a few years to get used to the idea of being a father and the change in your life, but hey it's what life is all about. If you ever feel like swapping nappy changing, baby sick or insomnia stories you know where to find me.

Just wait until they get older, the holidays will be trials of detail planning and, dare I say it, added costs.

I have 3 girls and many holiday packages are for a family of 4. The extra 1 adds a huge burden.

The wife has just called to say we are going to Salou in Oct. At least this is flying from East Midlands Airport. Just down the road from me.

Simon, how easy is it to get to Manchester Airport?? Coz that is where we fly to Florida in July.

Up the M6 and I think you come off at either Northwich or Knutsford and then onto the M56. It's very well signposted all the way and it should be pretty straightforward if you can get past Birmingham.

I've been caught out by not knowing which terminal before...but you won't.

I went to Florida in 93 with 7 mates we stayed in Kissimmee in a bungalow on a cul de sac. They are all the same - open plan, double garage, air con, swimming pool. We had lots of fun and gallons of Schlitz Beer. Is it really eleven years ago?

I'll definitely go back when my boys are a bit older.

I'm off to be a bridesmaid in a wedding chapel in Las Vegas, in September.
They are trying to find Elvis, in his final (fat) Vegas days, to conduct the ceremony!

Then off to Los Angeles, followed by San Francisco, with 20 mates.

Congratulations - new family members on the way.

Great to know you guys are getting ready to "vrooooooom". Had a great time in Thailand recently to catch their "water festival". What did you expect......course i got wet all over. You guys got to go over there some time. Its really BIG FUN.

Making plans for Adelaide, Australia this coming November to visit my daughter and I guess overland to other states as well.

Why not try Niagara falls Canada. I'm just a 30 minute drive from the falls, though it is to me, just how I remember Blackpool.
Toronto is an hours drive from my location and, I often drive over the peace bridge into the states (Buffalo) to do some grocery shopping when the canadian dollar is worth some decent US coin.
The weather?
Well lets just say that, in this part of Canada (Ontario province, Niagara region) we experience and enjoy the four distinct seasons. Spring is here and it's absolutely beutifull. When Summer hits us, it happens all of a sudden. One day your wearing a jacket and the next your wearing shorts and, that last's for @ 4 months. So we in Canada take advantage of the good weather because, when winter hits us, I can tell you its not like the UK, that's for sure.

Well, since I live @ 25 KM from the beach in Burlington, I spend a lot of time there during the Summer and Fall months.
Having said that, It will probably take the rest of the life alotted to me, to discover the rest of Canada.
I don't travel too much into the states these days due to the security issies and delays associated with travel in the states from Canada.
Things I hate about Summer? I just hate those damn mosquito's, they just love me though.
I do indeed miss Glasgow and, I haven't visited for 8 years now. I do get all kinds of reports about the asylum seekers (God bless them) who are being shunned by the regular folk. Having lived in Canada now for 11 years, I'm so used to living in a truly multi-cultural society. The meanng of nationalism to me has indeed morphed into internationalism these days and, I feel very comfortable being a Canadian citizen.

I have a friend who spent 4 weeks travelling through Canada last year, he said that he hardly scratched the surface of the vast country in the time he was there. I really would like to travel and see much more of our beautiful bluey green globe. If only I could get off this bloody computer.

My best advice to you regarding a trip to Canada?
Don't base yourself in one spot, Travel as much as you can.
Toronto is a holiday experience in itself. Niagara, well I'm sick of seeing it but, It's probably the most spectatcular sight I have ever seen, The helocopter ride over the Falls is just amazing.
I recently had a couple of cousins from Luton and western super mud and, they were doing the travel thing from New York - Toronto - Clagary (For the train, through the rockies all the way to Vancouver). They said the whale watching in British Columbia was a life time experience.
If you end up in my neck of the woods, It would be nice to put a face to the name, have a barbie and drink some Canadian beer.
Make sure though that, you research a trip to Canada and make sure you get the best package with the best and most suitable flight that suit your budget and time scale.
Me, well I tag along with my wife and two boys to the beach most days of the summmer. Since I work shifts, I take a few hours in at the beach before I get to work. I never thought I would be doing that when I lived in Glasgow, how things change EH?
