Hello, may I have some questions?

We are processing frozen fish fillets and exporting to New Zealand.

We've already certified FSSC 22000 standard but our customer is asking for Costco approval certificate.

I believe that we have already attained GFSI certification from Costco approved CB (DNV-GL).

But Costco also recommend that all GFSI Certification Programs are required to be accompanied by the applicable Costco Addendum.

My questions are that -

What is Costco Addendum?

What are the standards that not including in GFSI certification programs?

Thank you for your time.

Costco Addendum is like a mini audit - just for Costco.

If you sell to Costco or are a supplier to a seller to Costco then you would need to have the addendum.  Check to see if your CB is approved by Costco to provide this service as it is normally done at the same time as your regular FSSC audit would be done.

CB's have to be approved by Costco and not all are and that may be because the CB has to pay a fee to Costco in order to be "approved."

Yes, we had to switch CB because Costco did not approve the one we were originally with,

Has there been any updates since 2020 concerning the Costco Addendum? If a manufacturer supplies a product to company that then sells it to Costco, what are the guidelines if any for the manufacturer?

Hello everyone. I need your assistance. We have a GFSI certificate (IFS) issued by a certification body that is not approved by Costco. What should we do? Is it sufficient to complete the Costco addendum with a certification body that is approved by Costco? Thank you

Yes, it can be done separately by an approved CB.

Most people try to have their GFSI CB do it just because its more convenient, but now that Costco wants all of their audits done unannounced convenience isn't as relevant.

Thank you for answear.
Do you know if now Costco requires both, a GFSI audit and the Costco addendum? Is it impossible to have one without the other?

It will depend on what kind of facility you have.  Most food manufacturers will need both.

In last years new Food Safety and Quality Audit Expectations document, the table around page 7 shows which combinations of auditing are suitable.

Thank you for your help. In your opinion, does Costco not accept an IFS certificate from an unapproved certification body and an Addendum from an approved certification body? Do both need to be from an approved certification body? We wanted to use this Addendum to cover the fact that we don’t have an IFS certificate from an approved certification body.

On page 8 of the Food Safety & Quality Audit Expectations, for manufacturing, processing, or packing of foods, it states that additional requirements include using the IFS/Costco Guidance Document during certification, but there is no mention of an additional Addendum.
