Hi, glass jars get filled with product by hand as the company does not have a filling machine.  There is nothing in the standards regulations with regards to wiping off the excess product from the glass jars!  Does anyone have recommendations of what procedure could be followed and what one could use to clean the excess product off the jars with cross contamination?  Thank you

What is in the jars? That will have an impact on the nature of the cleaning that may be required - e.g. if it's vinegar in which pickled items are suspended then you can potentially just rinse it off, but if it's e.g. a jam or similar that is more substantial then the process will need to be a little more thorough, or if there are allergen considerations then you'll want to have extra precautions in place.

Some canning lines use a small "shower" type process to rinse any overspill off the cans after filling and seaming, and rigging up something similar on a small scale may be feasible for manual use, but it'll only be useful for low-viscosity liquids.

Is the product already closed before you perform the cleaning?
Because that would decrease the risk for your product.

In my company we fill our bottles (semi automatic), close them off and them whipe them down at the end of production with a damp cloth if some is spilled.
However we only did very small quantities. So it was manageable to whipe them all down individually.
